Hello world! My name is Laura and I’m so happy to be here and meet you (well if meeting over the internet counts). This blog has been in the making for the past 5 years…well when I say the last 5 years I mean I’ve been wanting to do this for so many years, but life and fear kept me from this journey. I wanted to use this platform as an outlet to express my creative side in the only way I’ve ever known how, which is through clothing. Life and my fear always got the best of me and it seemed I could never follow through. Fear of the unknown is scary and not having the first clue how to start a blog always stopped me dead in my tracks. But something inside me would never allow these thoughts to go away, so I decided I finally had to take the leap. I also need to say thank you to my amazingly talented friend Emily who always urged me to pursue this project (no matter how many times I started and stopped). She was always there and has helped me in more ways than she knows. I can’t forget my fear of writing, which had always left me paralyzed when it came to starting this blog. Ironic isn’t it? Someone terrified of writing decides to start a blog. I have learned through this process that the more I write the easier to words are to find. This has been a huge lesson for me and I hope it can be for you too. If we can just face whatever fear we may have and start to climb that hill we may be surprised where we find ourselves on the other side. I hope this site gives you a little inspiration, courage to step outside your comfort zone, and to try something that scares you.
In short, the name “Love and Sapphires” came from my father and the life lessons he taught me. He was the kindest most loving man, and when he died the comment I heard most was how kind and loving he was to everyone he met. He was the kind of person that when you met him you walked away and just smiled. He was always positive and upbeat no matter the pain he might have been experiencing. He battled cancer for about 9 years before his passing and even though he struggled most days he always remained smiling. Sapphires comes from the birthstone we both share hence “Love and Sapphires”. I dedicate this little project to him and love he brought to the world. I do my best everyday to bring that same love and joy to everyone around me.
Always remember, in the end…the only thing real is love.
